Women and Depression




Life is full of emotional ups and downs. But when times "low" are long lasting or interfere with your ability to function, you may be suffering from a common disease, but depression seriously. Types of depressive illness

In dysthymia, the same symptoms are present but are less severe and last for at least two years. People with dysthymia often lack encouragement and enthusiasm for living, living a sad and weary that seems to many to be a normal manifestation of their personalities. They may also experience major depressive episodes.
The manic depression, or bipolar disorder, is not as common as other forms of depressive illness and includes disruptive cycles of depressive symptoms that alternate with mania. During manic episodes, people tend to become hyperactive, talkative, euphoric, irritable, spend money irresponsibly, and engage in inappropriate sexual relationships. In some people, a less intense form of mania, called hypomania, alternates with depressive episodes. Unlike other mood disorders, both women and men have the same trend as bipolar disorder, but women with bipolar disorder tend to experience more episodes of depression and fewer episodes of mania or hypomania
