Tweedsmuir Park Lodge is a wilderness resort located on 60 acres of land inside British Columbia's largest park in the region known as the Great Bear Rainforest. The lodge caters to large and small groups. Whether searching for the perfect location for a family reunion or a unique adventure for corporate team building, Tweedsmuir Park Lodge is the perfect setting to connect with nature and those around you.
The beautiful, remote location offers an all-natural experience. There are ample opportunities for intimate wildlife viewing with four guided nature hikes to choose from. Expert guides will help identify signs of wildlife so you can observe them in their natural habitat. If you are interested in fishing or salmon ecology, the resort is located on the banks of the Atnarko River where the salmon spawn in the river from August through October. Thanks to low light and very low pollution, the area is ideal for stargazing. The lodge has a telescope that guests are welcome to use.
If you are interested in history, boat rides on the fjord are offered where you may visit the Mackenzie Rock or the Cannery. Built in the 1900s, the site has been restored and is now accessible to the public for touring daily. Nearby, the Bella Coola Farmers’ market is open between 10am and 2pm each Sunday, beginning the 1st of June. Local farmers and artisans gather here to display their merchandise. The Bella Coola Rodeo is held on the last weekend in June where you can watch bronco riding, bull riding, calf roping and other exciting activities.
One of the most exciting excursions available is Tweedsmuir Park Lodge’s grizzly bear tours. People come from all over the world to British Columbia to view grizzly bears. The tours at Tweedsmuir Park Lodge are unique in that their location provides an exemplary setting that allows them to be viewed in an all-natural habitat. The property’s location on the Atnarko River provides an exceptional viewing opportunity when the bears come to feed on salmon in the river. In addition, the river is only around 100 feet wide, so the distances at which the bears are most often viewed are at this distance or less. Guests are provided with the most natural experience possible. None of the tours include man-made spawning channels. Non-motorized boats are used when touring the river to prevent scaring the bears. The non-motorized McKenzie Drift Boats are built especially for the type of rivers traveled during the tour. Tour groups are limited to a maximum of four people per boat so there is no crowding when trying to view the bears.
